What is Intellectual Property Funding?

Intellectual Property Funding is a new asset finance solution that’s designed to unlock the hidden value of your own unique software intellectual property (IP) – your business’ intangible assets. It’s an innovative way of injecting capital into your business, without sacrificing control.

You retain the day-to-day commercial use and ongoing development of your software IP.

Intellectual Property Funding could help you accelerate your growth plans. You don’t need to slow down or put your business momentum on hold.

Tailor-made solutions

Innovative, bespoke solutions that could allow you to leverage your software IP by unlocking funds based on the value of your business-critical software.

How does an Intellectual Property Fund work?

As a relatively new finance product, Intellectual Property Funding is an example of how the finance industry is expanding quickly to be able to fund more and more intangible assets.

Get an idea of how we structure IP finance agreements below:

1.       Your Relationship Manager meets with you to discuss your requirements.

2.       Our Lombard technology specialists work with you to fully understand the role your software IP plays within your business. This is done by reviewing associated cash flows, third-party contracts, development costs and your future plans.

3.       A collateral value is agreed and a credit facility is put in place subject to approval.

4.       Your documents are issued, which creates a transfer of ownership of your software IP to Lombard as collateral against your funding. We then licence the use of the software IP back to your business for an agreed term, usually three to five years. At the end of the term, we can sell the software IP back to you or a third party (at your request and subject to an agreed maximum consideration) or review the possibility of revaluing the software IP, with a view to commencing a new transaction.

5.       We transfer the funds into your account.

6.       We agree a future date with you to review any developments and conduct a virtual asset inspection.
